Eat Drink Restaurant Week Is Here!

The time is here! Eat, Drink, Restaurant Week has arrived in the Triad.

Now, I know I mainly focus on WSNC restaurants but this event is everywhere in the “Triad” and Triad-Adjacent locations.

What is “Eat, Drink, Restaurant Week” you may ask?

It’s basically a competition between area restaurants. Is there a prize? There is… that prize is bragging rights. You want to say your restaurant is the best at what you do and you want it to come from customers and not just you saying you are, right?  That’s what is happening here. But, that’s not all. “Restaurant Weeks” are a perfect way for you to get your culinary feet wet with a restaurant or cuisine you have maybe been wanting to try but not ready to jump in for the price. And, maybe you want to introduce your family to your favorite place, but don’t know that it’s right for them? Whatever the reason, it’s meant to be fun while getting the establishments some recognition and love, and providing you a good meal, all at the same time.

Each restaurant will have a QR code for you to vote for them. It should be on a table tent or equivalent so you can vote while you’re there. This eliminates folks just going on and voting. The point is to drive business.

These restaurants will be competing in three different categories, so a fast-casual restaurant needn’t be outshined by a prestigious fine dining establishment. I’m going to highlight them so you know right away. The meals will be capped according to the category the establishment falls under. You can add to it for a nominal charge, I believe but the dish itself is capped at the category’s assigned price. There are no substitutes and when a restaurant sells out of that dish, there isn’t a replacement meal for it. So, it’s first come first served.

First, is the Fast-Casual category. These restaurants will be providing a meal capped at $10.

Next, is the Casual Dining category. These restaurants will be providing a meal capped at $15.

Finally, we have the Fine Dining category. These restaurants will be providing a meal capped at $25.

There you have the roster and lineup of culinary deliciousness to choose from, nosh, imbibe, enjoy, share, and vote. Take pictures! Use the hashtag “#eatdrinkrestaurantweek”. Tag @manwhoatethetown me in your pictures! Tell me what awesome delights you’re trying.

Bon appetit!

WSNC Restaurants That Plan to Close for July 4th

Updated on July 2, 2020. New additions notated with “*”

Traditionally, the July 4th holiday is a time for many WSNC restaurants to take their collective vacations, mostly for the week of. A time to reset. Time to make up for being open – in some cases – 7 days a week. We all need our time off. We all need a respite. We all know, now, that self-care is very important. This year, however, things are anything but “traditional.”

While many of these same restaurants have just reopened, others have been working overtime to stay relevant during the weird, hard, and unpredictable C-19 pandemic. Despite what they have been doing, it is my opinion that they need a rest. Some of the restaurants are doing just that. Here is the (potentially growing) list of WSNC restaurants that will be closed for July 4th or even beyond. All of this info is cultivated by their Facebook pages and if your favorite location isn’t on this list, I would highly recommend that you still call before you visit any location to make sure they are open (you can find their number on the F&B List). It is assumed, however, that if they are not posting closure on their Facebook, they are open. Here’s the list:

1703 Restaurant closed July 4 & 5.
Athena Greek Taverna closed from Monday, June 29 until Sunday, July 5.
*Baked Just SO closed July 4-7.
Bib’s Downtown closed Sunday, July 5.
Bobby Boy Bakeshop from Saturday, June 27 through Monday, July 6.
Carmine’s Italian closed from Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 9.
*Diamondback Grill Closed July 4.
Kermit’s Hot Dogs will be closed July 1 through July 15 for their annual maintenance (and maybe some vacation).
*La Casa Lopez Closed July 2-5.
Meridian Restaurant closed for Holiday from Saturday, July 4 through Sunday, July 12.
Mission Pizza closed for Holiday- Until July 9.
Mrs. Pumpkins closed Thursday, July 2 through Saturday, July 4.
Pulliam’s closed Friday, July 3 & Saturday, July 4.
*Real Q closed July 4-8.
The Carriage House closed Wednesday, July 1 through Monday, July 6.
Vincenzo’s closed Saturday, July 4 through Tuesday, July 7.
Walkertown Seafood Shack closed Monday, June 29 through Monday, July 6.
Wine Merchants closed Saturday, July 4 through Tuesday, July 7.

As always, Lea and I have done our best to curate this list as accurately as possible. If you have a food/beverage establishment and you don’t see your place of business on this list and you will be closed for the holiday (or dates surrounding it), please, feel free to contact me to get added. Also, if there are any errors, please inform me of that, as well. Enjoy your holiday week!

The Re-Emergence Part 3

Part 3.

From Mission Pizza’s Facebook:

We’ll just put the graphic here. If you don’t know what DGAF means, you’ll have to Google it as this is a family blog:

From Monte De Rey’s Facebook:

We are excited to announce in compliance with Gov. Coopers Phase 2 plan all Monte de Rey locations will be open for dine-in service at 50% capacity as of 5 pm this Friday 5/22/2020.

From Ryan’s Restaurant’s Facebook:

COVID-19 update: Ryan’s Restaurant will be opening for full service starting Friday, May 22nd at 5 pm. We will be following the Governor’s guidelines in regards to social distancing, sanitizing, table spacing, etc. We ask that our customers also maintain appropriate social distancing and follow health protocols. If you feel sickly or display symptoms of COVID-19, we ask you that please stay home. Everyone’s health is of the utmost importance, especially during this time. We have amended our hours temporarily where we will be open Monday-Thursday from 5 pm-8:30 pm and Friday-Saturday from 5 pm-9 pm. This is uncharted territory for our staff and we are doing the very best we can to meet all state safety requirements while also serving the public. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the operations of the restaurant, we ask that you please speak with a manager. We are so happy to be back and can’t wait to see our loyal patrons!

From Stoked’s Facebook:

Hey folks we can finally give you an update on reopening!

First.. thank you for your continued love for our staff and our food! This has been a long few months.. we are so thankful for the cards, calls and kind gestures that MANY of you have made. I could honestly cry when thinking about all of you.

……..

We will not open this weekend for many reasons, but mainly because we have to get our sister restaurant out-of-our kitchen. JK!!! No really… This week we will continue to serve dinner to-go/delivery through Sunday.

We’ll open for dining on Tuesday 26th but with limited seating as we get the dust off our training wheels. We open for dine-in/ to-go/delivery
Tuesdays-Thursday 5-9 Friday-Saturday 5-?
CLOSED SUNDAY MONDAY

The strict seating capacity at both locations is uncharted territory for us. Stoked is small and we only have 35 seats total to work with. We will be requiring reservations for inside, including the bar for the foreseeable future. Each table will have a certain amount of time based on the number of guests you bring. 1 hour for 2-4 guests, 1.5 hours for 5-8 guests. This will only be the case during Phase 2, so PLEASE understand our need to turn the tables.

The patio will be serving food first come first serve based on party size/weather and staffing. This too will start slow as we get geared back up….so please know just because there is a table, that doesn’t mean we can sit you. We will try to have waiting tables on the sidewalk, but no inside waiting will be allowed.

As of this coming Tuesday the 26th, we will be requiring ALL to-go orders to be made online through Stokedwoodfiredpub.com SO PLEASE order online so we can bring the food out to you. Text Stoked to 33733 for our app or go directly to our website Stokedwoodfiredpub.com for ordering. (DO NOT GOOGLE OUR WEBSITE YOU WILL BE CHARGED MONEY WE DO NOT GET)

We know comfort levels will vary for all of you. We won’t those who are looking forward to going out to dinner to feel safe. We want our staff, to feel safe. We are aware of the delicate rope we have to walk. Most importantly we look forward to seeing your smiling faces again!

From The Carriage House’s Facebook:

Hello Carriage House Restaurant friends! 😄

We are happy to announce that we will be open for dining-in, starting on Friday the 22nd at 5 PM. We are respectful of your safety, therefore, the restaurant will be operating at 50% capacity.

The well-being and satisfaction of our clients is our top priority. We miss you and can’t wait to see you again! 😊

More to come… STAY SAFE WSNC!!!!
